Your place for dreaming and doing, under the stars at the scrub and sea.
We acknowledge the Kaurna people of the Adelaide plains. The traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We pay our respect to elders past and present.
Kaurna Country
Everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Aalya studio is home to a family of artists and nature lovers in Aldinga beach, Kaurna Country (South Australia). The property is 45 minutes from Adelaide, consisting of a family home, an artist studio and two cabins for guests. Andreas and Koruna actively apply regenerative principles to the property by planting endemic species to support local bird life, welcoming guests to dream, rest, or do in the comfortable surrounds and cabins. The cabins are all furnished with quality beds, cotton sheets and thoughtfully equipped kitchens; everything you need, nothing you don’t.
Our local and international community made the original art on display, making every room unique. The views from the verandah are spectacularly expansive, giving you a sense of solitude and relaxation. Breathe deeply, and take in the Southern Onkaparinga Hills, the private wetlands full of animal life and fields full of curious kangaroos. Delight in glimpses of the blue ocean at the red cliffs at sunset. The quiet peacefulness of the Aalya cabins is soothing and refreshing.
If you want to get moving, the fantastic Aldinga Scrub is only 200 meters away with a stroll down Cox Road. “The Aldinga Scrub is one of the few remaining patches of native vegetation characterising the pre-settlement coastal scrubland in the vicinity of what is now greater Adelaide. It is of rare significance for its unusual association of plants including species characteristic of sclerophyll forest, mallee scrub and coastal sands”. Many walking trails meander through the scrub. Or take a short, direct track and find yourself on pristine Aldinga Beach. This West-facing beach is the perfect place to watch the sunset.
For the tourist in everyone, the Fleurieu Peninsula is home to the famous Mclaren Vale wine region. World-class wineries offer tours and tastings. The restaurant and food offerings run from casual social clubs on the beach with freshly caught fish and chips to coffee roasters in old blacksmith huts serving coffee to gourmet degustations paired with local wines.
For fresh local produce, shop the Willunga farmer’s market on Saturday and cook for yourself! Visit a local Almond farm or buy local Olive Oil. Bring bicycles and park your car undercover during your stay, exploring the trails and paths that take you beside the vines, along cliffs with stunning views out to sea, into quaint villages and historic sites. As the saying goes, “you could be anywhere”. “Aalya” refers to the sublime, being exalted and rising.

Studio, Residencies
and Those Pink Hills
I wonder if much that ails our society stems from the fact we have allowed ourselves to be cut off from that love of, and from, the land. It is medicine for broken land and empty hearts.

Look into the beyond
Aalya Studio is Koruna Schmidt Mumm, a visual artist working mainly in the community art space. Her partner, Andreas Schmidt Mumm, is a retired science academic focused on all that is geological. He writes stories as his creative outlet. Their two sons are also artists and often use the studio and cabins as a creative haven, recording an album on the property and bringing a community of visual artists, musicians, and writers to visit or stay. Whether it is to recharge or to create, Aalya Studio and Cabins invites visual artists, musicians and writers to book time at the cabins to develop work and ideas. If you are looking for a place for your team to retreat or work on a project or simply a quiet place to read, write, and create – then get in touch. Please look out in future for Aalya Studio creative residency program.
